I want to change my school. How can I do that?
You are not allowed to change a school once you have been accepted at a school and the TE office has secured your placement
I want to find out if it is advisable or allowed to go to the same school you went to last year?
It is not advisable for you to go to the same school again, as the TE office encourages you to have a differentiated teaching experience where you are exposed to all types of schools, that being rural, urban private and suburban.
Apart from lesson plans, what goes in my file?
Please refer to your TE Handbook where you will find the necessary requirements.
What do I do if my mentor teacher has passed some sexual remarks towards me?
Please contact your tutor who is to set up a meeting at the school with the school principal. If the matter is not resolved at the school with the principal's intervention, your tutor must contact the TE office immediately.
I handed in my file last year and did not collect it. Can I still collect my file?
All TE files should have been collected during the stipulated dates sent on Ulwazi. There is NO guarantee that your file will still be available after collection dates.
If I am absent from school during My Teaching Experience, must I make up the day?
By law you must produce a valid doctor's note if absent for 3 days. If more than three days, you must make up the days as per the MRTEQ policy from DHET.
Why have I not received my TE allowance?
The TE office does not work with TE allowances. Please send an email to the finance department.
I am pregnant during my TE period, what do I do?
Consult your TE handbook and the pregnancy policy found therein where you will see the precise steps you can take to assist you.
Can I do two assessments in one day?
No, there needs to be enough time for you to work on the comments from the first assessment to grow and improve before the taking the second assessment.
Do I need a lesson plan for every lesson I teach?
Yes, you need a lesson plan for every lesson you teach. If you are teaching the same grade, you must change the topic.
Are assessments scheduled?
Your tutor schedules your classroom assessments. However, your tutor may inform you in advance if there’s going to be any random visits. You need to clarify this with your tutor.
I handed in my file this year, when ccan I collect it?
File collection dates are announced on Ulwazi wghich must be adhered to for collection.
I am not happy with the conditions of my school. How do I change it?
You not allowed to change your school. Teaching in different contexts in real world challenges is part of teaching. Your exposure to such conditions is part of your training.
My tutor has not contacted me as yet for an assessment. What do I do now?
Your tutor would have provided you with contact details during your TE briefing, which was compulsory to attend. You should be in contact with your tutor regularly. Use the contact details your tutor provided you with to contact him/her.
Do I need to let my tutor know if I am absent from school?
Yes, always let your tutor and the school know if you are absent. This is important.
What do I do if I feel my tutor has evaluated me unfairly?
A university tutor has the necessary skills and competencies together with the criteria necessary to evaluate you.
I have been robbed and feel that the school at which I am placed is not safe. How do I change my school?
Please report to the police station and open up a case of robbery and get a case number, which is to be sent to the TE office. Only when the TE office receives the case number, will a response to your request for a change of school be issued to you.
My tutor has made some sexual remarks towards me, what now?
Please write to the TE coordinator immediately with evidence.
I am a PGCE student teaching in a three-term school. How do I complete my TE as the school is closed during TE?
Please read your TE handbook, it clearly states that you need to make alternate arrangements and find a school that is open during TE as tutors are only available during the university calendar for TE.
What do I do if I don't get on with my supervising teacher?
This is an important relationship and it's necessary to try and make it work. You need to listen to and respect your supervising teacher, while making it a conducive space for you to learn. If there are irreconcilable differences, contact your tutor.
Do I need to write in my reflective journal every day?
First follow the guidelines provided in your TE handbook. Please ensure this is a reflection and not just listing of events.
How many lesson plans must I have in my file?
Your TE Handbook provides all the necessary requirements for your file. Please refer to your Handbook. If you are still confused, please speak to your tutor as he/she is your first point of contact.
I am currently a B.ed 3rd Year student, will my TE file from 2nd Year be assessed?
Please consult with your 2023 2nd Year TE Handbook the documents within your 2nd Year TE file required for assessment in your 3rd year.
How do I register for the Teacher Choices in Action program (TCIA)?
All information regarding the TCIA can be found in your TE Handbook. Please consult your TE Handbook.
Am I allowed to collect my file for my friend
Students MUST collect their own file because very often when friends collect files, they go missing. The TE office cannot be held responsible for files being misplaced.
What are the dates for TE?
Your first point of reference is to read your TE Handbook. All the necessary information including TE dates are found in your TE Handbook.
I have lost my TE journal, what do I do?
You will have to start a new journal from scratch and get an affidavit stating that your Journal was lost.
I handed in my file this year, when can I collect it?
File collection dates are announced on Ulwazi sometime in Oct/Nov which must be adhered to for collection.
Can I go to the same school at which I matriculated?
You may only complete your TE at the same school you matriculated if 3 years or more has elapsed since the date of your matriculation.
I am in another province, can my friend fetch my file for me.
No, it was your responsibility to collect your own file before you left the province. Very often files are lost when friends collect them.
I'm a first year B.Ed. student, should I go to a primary or high school to complete my TE this year?
All B.Ed. first year students MUST go to a primary school to complete their TE.
